Equine Veterinary Nurse / Technician

We have an exciting opportunity for an Equine Veterinary Nurse to join our team for the upcoming season starting July 2025.

About Us:
Waikato Equine Veterinary Centre is a full-service equine clinic located in Cambridge, Waikato. With our state-of-the-art facility and highly experienced team, we cater to all equine athletes and leisure horses with sixteen veterinarians, twelve nurses and eleven office staff. We offer a 14 stable hospital including a mare and foal box, a fully equipped surgical suite, arena, lunging and trot up areas, crush and laboratory.  We enjoy working as a team and providing the best possible service and care to our patients.

The role:

This is an 8-month (July – March) fixed-term position required to assist us during the busy breeding season.  It is a full time role (minimum 40 hours per week) and includes working on our roster for on call evening and weekend work. As part of our nursing team, you will be involved in many aspects of equine nursing including in field work, surgical nursing, daily in-patient care, intensive care foals, assisting with yearling and weanling sales xrays, bonescans and emergency cases.

Skills and Experience:

  • Qualification or previous experience in equine veterinary nursing i.e. Diploma in Veterinary Nursing/Bachelors Degree of Veterinary Technology (or similar).
  • A confident, motivated individual with great communication and interpersonal skills.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Physically fit with the ability and experience in handling a variety of horses (foals, racehorses, yearlings, sport horses, ponies etc.).
  • A hard working, diligent and reliable person who can take initiative and work effectively. 
  • Competent numeracy and literacy skills.
  • Passion for delivering high standards of care for our equine patients and ability to empathise.  
  • Ability to learn and be flexible in a fast-paced working environment, with great multitasking skills.
